Frequently Asked Questions:

1. What is speech therapy?

Speech therapy helps individuals improve communication skills, including speaking, understanding language, expressing thoughts, using social language, and more. It can also address voice, fluency (stuttering), and feeding/swallowing issues.

2. How do I know if my child needs speech therapy?

If your child is not meeting speech and language milestones, is difficult to understand, has trouble following directions, or struggles with social communication, a speech and language evaluation can help determine if therapy is recommended.

3. What happens during a speech and language evaluation?

I will assess your child’s communication skills using a combination of play-based observation, standardized testing, and parent input. The evaluation helps identify strengths and areas needing support, and guides therapy planning.

4. What ages do you work with?

We work with children of all ages—from toddlers just beginning to talk to school-aged children and teens. Some therapists also work with adults, depending on the practice.

5. How long are therapy sessions?

Sessions typically last 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the child’s age, attention span, and specific needs. Frequency of sessions is determined based on the results of the evaluation.

6. How long will my child need therapy?

Each child is different. The length of therapy depends on the nature and severity of the communication challenges, consistency of attendance, and practice at home. Progress is regularly monitored and goals are adjusted as needed.

7. Do you accept insurance?

I do not currently contract with any commercial insurance providers. I am an out-of-network private practice, but can provide a superbill for reimbursement. Check with your insurance provider to see if speech therapy is covered. Some practices may be in-network with certain plans.

8. Where are services provided?

Convenience is key! I provide services at your home or your child’s daycare/school. I am also happy to meet you at another mutually agreed upon location such as a public library.
